SUMMARY:Mary Poppins (1964)
DESCRIPTION:There is charm\, wit and movie magic to spare in Walt Disney’s adaptation of the P.L. Travers novel about a “practically perfect” Nanny who brings lots of changes—some welcome\, some not!—to the Banks family of London in 1910\, which includes two irresistible youngsters named Jane and Michael. Oscars went to Julie Andrews in her film debut\, and to the songwriting Sherman brothers (“Chim-Chim-Cheree”). And what a triumph for Dick Van Dyke\, playing Burt the chimney sweep\, who sings\, dances and acts with mind-blowing relish\, and who turned 100 in December.

SUMMARY:Hallelujah\, I’m a Bum (1933)
DESCRIPTION:In our first of two Rodgers & Hart musicals\, a New York vagrant falls in love with the mayor’s amnesiac girlfriend after rescuing her from a suicide attempt. Al Jolson\, Madge Evans and Frank Morgan star. The controversial film\, which veers from comic to serious – is the only musical that deals directly with the Depression. Leonard Maltin finds it “provocative\, daring and fascinating.”

SUMMARY:Broadway\, My Way! with Helen Welch
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a really good way to support TMTP’s mission? How about attending our April benefit event at Cleveland’s historic Union Club? The evening includes cocktails\, dinner\, both live and silent auctions\, a few surprises—and most important\, a spectacular singer in a show created just for us. \nShe’s HELEN WELCH\, a native Brit but for 22 years a Clevelander who has developed a love affair with our town\, and it’s mutual. Helen has titled her new show “Broadway\, My Way!” She’ll put her unique spin on great songs from iconic musicals including Kiss Me\, Kate\, Meet Me in St. Louis\, South Pacific\, My Fair Lady\, The King and I\, Oklahoma! and more. \nHelen is now considered Cleveland’s Own\, but actually she’s an international vocalist and entertainer who has wowed audiences from London’s West End to Broadway. \n“This show reflects my deep love for Broadway and Hollywood musicals and my passion for creative reinterpretation\,” she says. “You know and love the songs\, but my hope is that you’ve never heard them done quite this way before. That’s the fun of it for me and the audience.”

SUMMARY:Gilbert and Sullivan Set the Course for This Fall's Rendezvous
DESCRIPTION:Formed 25 years ago\, The Musical Theater Project is a unique “museum\,” its doors open wide both locally and nationally. Our mission is to preserve and honor 20th-century American musical theater in songs\, stories and social history. We guide participants in learning about and making personal connections with the art form’s past through local live performances and school programs\, and in national radio broadcasts\, online discussions and recordings.
