Harbinger Records’ highly successful reissues of the classic recordings by the famed Walden Records company is completed with the long-awaited CD debut of Walden’s Songs by Arthur Schwartz. Broadway performers Bob Shaver and Laurel Shelby, along with the Art Wagner Quintet, interpret ten of Schwartz’s standards and rarieties. The set features such song standards as “By Myself” and “Alone Together” alongside lesser-known but equally felicitous titles as “Oh, But I Do” and “This Is It.” All of Schwartz’s major collaborators are covered including such legendary lyricists as Howard Dietz, Dorothy Fields, Leo Robin, Johnny Mercer, and Frank Loesser.
Arthur Schwartz, along with his longtime collaborator Howard Dietz, provided scores for a series of remarkable shows including The Band Wagon, Flying Colors, Revenge with Music, and Inside U.S.A. He also had successes with his other lyrical cohorts on such shows as A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Park Avenue, and Stars in Your Eyes.
The Walden tribute to the music of Arthur Schwartz has been long sought after by collectors and music lovers alike. It joins the other Harbinger releases of Walden recordings including albums of songs by Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, and Ira Gershwin.
