On the Calendar
The Song Is You! celebrates the words, music and artists that give the art form its passion and importance. These concerts showcase the finest theater and film songs while exploring the cultural and historical impact of musical theater as an American art form. Often referred to as a “docu–concert” or live documentary, each TMTP concert combines live performances with commentary and dozens of rare still images and video clips.
Walk On: The Power of ‘Carousel’
In 1999, Time magazine named Carousel the Best Musical of the 20th century and wrote that Rodgers and Hammerstein “set the standards for the 20th century musical…this show features their most beautiful score and the most skillful and affecting example of their musical storytelling”. Join BILL RUDMAN and NANCY MAIER for an in-depth look at this musical theater classic in The Musical Theater Project’s production of Walk On: The Power of Carousel. Bill and Nancy will tell the story, along with the saga of the musical’s creation, aided by soloists, a chorus and an instrumental ensemble.

Footlight Parade and On the Aisle are fast-paced radio celebrations of American musical theater, blending iconic recordings with lively commentary and artist interviews, hosted by renowned musical theater expert (and TMTP Artistic Director) Bill Rudman.

The Harbinger label — devoted to musical theater, cabaret and the Great American Songbook — houses an extraordinary range of artists, from legendary performers such as Peggy Lee, Mabel Mercer and Ethel Merman to first-rate contemporary artists including Sylvia McNair, Barbara Fasano and Eric Comstock.

Who We Are, What We Do and why we do it
Our Mission
Formed 27 years ago, The Musical Theater Project is a lively “museum,” its doors open wide both locally and nationally. Our mission is to preserve and honor the 20th-century American musical (both stage and screen) in songs, stories and social history. We guide participants in learning about and making personal connections with the art form’s past through local live performances and school programs, and in national radio broadcasts, online discussions and recordings.
TMTP has a steadfast commitment to inclusion. Everyone is fully welcomed and invited into all facets of the organization’s life regardless of age, race, nationality, disability, gender, sexual identity or economic status—not just as people living in the world, but as equal citizens living in a democracy.
